Which cars are cheapest to maintain in Kenya?
Last updated · Cada car guides
In Kenya the cheapest cars to keep running are usually the most common ones: small and mid-size Toyotas (Vitz, Passo, Axio, Fielder, Probox, Premio), followed by popular Nissan, Honda and Mazda models. Their parts are stocked widely, including good used parts, and almost every mechanic knows them. Rare models, luxury European cars and complex turbo or air-suspension systems cost more. This is general market experience, not a measured ranking, so ask a garage for the price of a service kit and common parts for the exact model before you buy.
| Usually cheapest | Common Toyotas; then popular Nissan, Honda, Mazda |
|---|---|
| Usually dearer | Rare models, European luxury, air suspension, big turbo engines |
| Why | Parts availability and mechanic familiarity |

How to check before buying
- Ask two garages for the price of a full service and of brake pads, shock absorbers and a clutch or gearbox service.
- Check that parts for the exact engine and year are available locally, not only by order.
- Hybrid batteries and CVT gearboxes are the expensive items on many Japanese cars; ask about their condition.
